Best Tips for Growing Strawberries

Volume

  • Strawberries have and will continue to be a household favorite.
  • Plant 3 plants per person in the family.
  • If you share your strawberries frequently, we recommend planting multiple rows in your garden.

Early Planning

  • Consider planting early in June. This may seem rather soon, but you will have more fruit.
  • Strawberry continue to yield even after being picked so the sooner you plant, the more strawberries you will have.
  • This will help for our volume tip.

Planting

  • Highly sunny areas are best.
  • Plan to insert into soil in cooler temperatures so the plant has time to adjust to the hotter climate.
  • Organized and evenly spaced rows provide for the best chance of proper growth. Vines will want to travel and you will have to spend more time managing this if you do not give them space.
  • Ensure soil can drain. Strawberries lack growth in water-dense soil.

Fertilizer

  • Due to strawberry plants flowering before fruiting, you will need to pick the flowers.
  • At this stage, the plants will require more attention and nutrients. Fertilizers like homemade compost or store-bought fish waste can help tremendously.
